The Philosophy of Can Do Martial Arts

The philosophy of any martial art is the most important aspect of training because it is the training of spirit and character.

Martial arts are a way of life and we teach all our students to strive to develop themselves in a positive manner and to bring the best out of themselves and others in all they do.

Violence and aggression are not behaviours we tolerate and our methods help to channel these negative values into positive action as our students learn to calm situations and be aware of them before they develop. Our students become effective in the art of self defence and combat but only use such methods as a last resource.

Students learn equality in the dojo and all must start at the bottom and work their way up. Subsequently regardless of the student’s age, religion, individual differences or style of martial art, they learn higher virtues, those of respect, self-discipline, compassion, humility, courage and honour.

Martial arts are for everyone, and everyone can learn something from the martial arts and everyone can bring something new to the art they practise. No one has all the answers and no true martial artist would say they do.

We look to promote excellent martial arts teaching and build relationships with our peers in the arts and further the development of good teaching practise and coaching.

We welcome all who wish to learn and look to learn from all those we teach.

See you in the dojo!
