What we teach: Karate - Jeet Kune Do - Kali

Karate is a system of self defence and physical culture originally developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan . The word is formed from the Japanese words Kara (empty) and Te (hand), symbolising that its practitioners - Karateka - are unarmed, but use their hands and feet for blocking and striking.

We teach using innovative, interactive and fun methods in order to get the most out of our dedicated students. As a Black Belt School we ensure our students embody all that this represents. Not only do we provide an exciting form or exercise and fitness, but we also instill those values that create great character and build the foundations of success.

Karate is about the perfection of character: Courtesy   Honesty    Courage   Humility     Respect     Integrity    Self Discipline

We also believe it is important that our students understand the practical application of karate techniques so that they have the necessary skills with which to protect themselves.

Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's fighting methods JKD) and Kali (Filipino weapons based arts) are taught in order to enhance self-defence techniques and includes all range stand-up combat, ground fighting and weapons defence.  JKD teaches us to use that which is useful and discard that which is not, thus each individual is capable of developing their own system of martial arts that is effective for them personally. Kali is great fun and builds exceptional coordination skills as well as providing many useful weapons defence techniques.

We also use SAQ (Speed, Agility & Quickness) exercises in order to promote limb co-ordination and agility. Agility training has many other benefits for the athlete including a reduced risk of injury and improved body awareness.
